Purpose of Exhibition

This is the one of the "Exhibition from a Good Memory" (Natsukashi no Tenji), which was selected out of the previous exhibitions in the old Science and Technology Building closed in August 2010. The purpose of this exhibition is to show you what exhibits used to be presented in the old building and why they were popular.

Additional Knowledge

This exhibit had been presented on the 7^{th f} floor of the old Science and Technology Building in the Nagoya City Science Museum between March 1994 and August 2010. Due to the closure of the old Science and Technology Building, a questionnaire about what exhibits should be maintained was conducted for the museum visitors. Since this exhibit won a large number of votes, it was decided it would be kept in the new building as a "Exhibition from a Good Memory" (Natsukashi no Tenji).

This was a part of an exhibition originally titled "Let's Play with Sensors." Sensors are to detect something, like our eyes, ears, and nose. This "Fun Electric Shock" had been set up for introducing how a contact sensor works. The contact sensor is a sensor that informs you that something has touched it. In these sensors, there is one that informs you of contact by mechanical switch, and another that detects the change of electrostatic capacity and the flow of electricity by contact.

"Fun Electric Shock" is a game in which you move an iron bar along a metal path with the iron bar not to make any contact with the metal from start to end. A slight amount of electricity is supposed to be felt when the iron bar comes into contact with the metal path and it determines the touch.
